For my 34th birthday, I flew to New York City just for fun and had an eventful and fun weekend filled with laughter and FOOD.
I didn’t eat keto but I had some NY staples: pizza, bagels, street food, etc. So much amazing food and the culture in NYC is just dynamite, always moving. I stayed in Queens and spent most of my time walking around Jackson Heights, which is such a joyous neighborhood. It’s where I got most of my food too
I had a plan to hang out with 3 friends but I only got to spend time with 1 but it was such an amazing time. I took the bus, the F train, and the 7 train to Penn Station (which is right under MSG?????) We walked through Times Square and entered this little Ramen shop, sat at the bar, and started ordering. We ended up eating shrimp tempura, spicy miso ramen, and some other appetizers that I cannot remember, such a fun night! I took one bite, and it was as if I’d seen the face of God, it was heavenly tasting, the broth, mmmm.
My mental health was AMAZING! I saw so much of God’s goodness and I was not treated like a tourist. In fact, I walked around so much that one of the locals asked me for apartment recommendations, she was a journeywoman electrician, a sweet woman who hit me with “you’re not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy.” after telling her I was visiting. I even walked to a Colombian bakery and ordered a coffee in Spanish. Everyone was super nice and the thing I love about New York is everyone is just focused on their business and theirs only, no time for bullshit.
Some highlights: the food obviously, so much walking (4 miles+ per day!), amazing views, wall sit challenge (yes I still did my wall sits for February), good friends, a tremendous city filled with chaotic energy.
I gotta go back and visit the other boroughs. Happy 34th to me 🙂
